Summary of the international webinar «Online Teaching Strategies»

 

On April 7, 2021, within the framework of the Month of Science and the current International Project «Evidence-based educator preparation and organizational culture» with the participation of California State University Sacramento (USA), was held an International Online Webinar «Online Teaching Strategies». The project is funded by the Government of America, the U.S.- Kazakhstan university partnerships grants program with the support of the American Council for International Education.


The organizers: teachers of the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation of the Institute of Philology and Multilingual Education and postdoctoral researchers of the university.

 

The moderator Bayan Sapargaliyeva - postdoctoral researcher, project coordinator from Abai KazNPU, opened the webinar. The main speaker of the event was Alexander Sidorkin, project coordinator, professor, dean of the Education College, California State University Sacramento (USA), the second speaker was Aigul Zhumabekova, Professor of the Oriental Philology and Translation Department, Institute of Philology and Multilingual Education.

 

Bayan Sapargaliyeva, moderator, project coordinator from Abai KazNPU presented the webinar program and shared briefly about the goal and objectives of the project. Aigul Zhumabekova shared her online learning experience in Abai KazNPU, about the strategic directions of the university in the field of the digital education system, the types of programs to improve the level of IT competencies of teaching staff, educational digital platforms of the university. The successes achieved and the main difficulties of online learning were highlighted for teachers, and for students as well.

 

Alexander Sidorkin presented information on the results of a questionnaire survey of students and teachers of his university on the effectiveness of online learning. The speaker shared information about such as online learning strategies as relationship pedagogy, course design. "We are in a moments», "everyone hears», "explain how you are doing», micro-tasks; provided concrete examples on all strategies in a clear and engaging way.

 

The online webinar had about 100 participants, representatives of universities in Kazakhstan, including: E.A. Buketov Karaganda University, S. Toraigyrov Pavlodar State University, KazNWTTU, M. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University, K. Satpayev KazNRTU, Caspian University, Central Asian University, KazSSCEA and Abai KazNPU.

 

Questions and answers of the webinar participants were discussed at the session.

 

Summing up the results of the online event at the international level, it can be noted once again that the degree of involvement and preparation of teachers and students in online learning has a huge role in education, both for teachers and for the students themselves.

 

The webinar was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the participants expressed their gratitude to the speakers and organizers for the interesting and kind online meetings and look forward to further cooperation with the California University in Sacramento.
