Held opening ceremony of the 28th World Winter Universiade

On 29 January, 2017 on the slopes of Alatau in Almaty Сity  held the Opening Ceremony of 28th World Winter Universiade. The three-hour opening stage have been shown theatrical performance from the history and culture of our people, which charmed all the spectators and guests.
Universiade Hostess country`s flag accompanied by National Guard officers and thousands of spectators became witnessed the raising of the flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan. After that, sounded the national anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is performed by all those present. Shown historical monuments and dances of more than 130 nationalities, who peacefully live in the country. The audience warmly received the teams participating countries, and especially fans of the national team of Kazakhstan, which has completed the procession.
A welcoming speech at the opening of the Universiade spoke the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated the participants and wished them success.
Over 400 students of our university have become spectators of this significant event.
The competitions of the Winter Universiade - 2017 in Almaty City will take part in more than 2,000 sportsmen from 57 countries. Competitions will be held from 12 kinds of sports: biathlon, downhill skiing, curling, speed skating, Nordic combined, cross country skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey and short track. 85 sets of medals will be awarded. Games will be held at 8 sports facilities: mountain skating rink "Medeu" - skating; Ski resort "Shymbulak" - alpine skiing (slalom, giant slalom, Super Giant Slalom, downhill), snowboard, freestyle; Baluan Sholak Sports Palace - short track (speed skating on a short track), ice hockey (women); Ski and Biathlon stadium "Alatau" - cross-country skiing, biathlon, Nordic combined; Palace "Khalyk - Arena" - ice hockey (men): Palace "Almaty -Arena" - figure skating (single, pair skating, ice dancing), curling, opening and closing ceremony of the Universiade-2017; Sports and Entertainment Complex "Tabagan" - snowboarding, freestyle; Ski Jump Complex "Sunkar" - ski jumping on the 95th (NH). Two new sports facilities, as Khalyk - Arena and Almaty -Arena from 8 sports facilities specially was built for the Universiade.
