Festive evening dedicated to the Chinese New Year and the opening of the student`s club «Chinese place»

On February 16, 2023, Abai University hosted a festive evening dedicated to the Chinese New Year and the opening of the student`s club «Chinese place» as part of the admission to student ranks of 1st year students in the specialty «Teacher of Oriental (Chinese) language with knowledge of English». The event was organized by Chinese language teachers Asel Almabekova, Araylim Raeva, Symbat Meirkhan and students of the Chinese language department.

The guests of the festive event were the Vice-Rector for Strategy, Digitalization and Internationalization Doctor of Philology, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aktolkyn Turlykhanovna Kulsariyeva, Director of the Institute of Philology, Doctor of Philology Alua Vasilievna Tanzharykova, Head of the Chair of Oriental Philology and Translation, PhD Nazim Nurbolatovna Konkabaeva, teachers of the Confucius Institute at the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Chen Hao, Mukatay Clara.

The purpose of this event was a deeper acquaintance of Chinese language students with Chinese culture. On this basis, a performance about the Chinese New Year along with Kazakh songs, kyuis, dances, songs of the Celestial Empire sounded, dances were shown. Teachers from the Confucius Institute at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Chen Hao gave a lecture on how the Chinese New Year is celebrated, and activists of the student club «Chinese Place» and Mukatai Klara held master classes on the Chinese tradition of tea drinking, making red paper candles.

The invited guests, teachers of the Confucius Institute at the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, received letters of thanks from the director of the Institute of Philology. Students took an active part in all master classes, received letters of thanks and prizes from the head of the Chair of Oriental Philology and Translation, and Chinese language teachers. It is planned to hold annual events of this format, aimed at in-depth study of the Chinese language among students and teachers, and the rapprochement of students.
