How to choose a university?

At present, each graduate is faced with the task of choosing a university that will provide knowledge in the future favorite specialty. In this regard, psychologist of KazNPU Bakhyt Zhigitbekova gives advice on how to choose your higher education institution. According to her, a few years ago she entered the KazNPU and never regretted it.

«The university I chose was the first in Kazakhstan. It was opened in 1928 and has extensive experience in various fields and specialisations. The knowledge I received in pedagogy and its methods helped me become a reliable specialist, and based on this experience, I offer the following advice on how to choose my university», Zhigitbekova said.

It is necessary to get information about the accreditation of the chosen university and specialty, and it is also important to know the status of the university and its place in the education market. At the same time, the university`s long history increases its credibility.

Getting acquainted with educational programs of the chosen educational institution.

While mastering these programmes, get acquainted with the programmes of the chosen profession to answer the question «What kind of specialist will I become? Remember that programs of your chosen profession do not coincide with programs of other universities. That`s why you need to weigh the pros and cons and take them to heart. Also, make sure that your internship programs are practice-oriented so that you can learn your favourite profession in the future.

Institutions of higher education have government or non-government specifics. To meet demand, public higher education institutions may be able to get more budget seats. But the choice depends on your own will.

If you are studying on a fee-paying basis, check to see how tuition fees will increase according to inflation or there will be no increase. When paying tuition, it will not be superfluous to determine a profitable schedule, i.e. the possibility of installments for the semester, to find out what discounts apply.

Information about whether the university can provide a hostel. Please note that there are enough places in the hostel. The location of the dormitory not far from the building may be positive for the institution of your choice. Also note the availability of a canteen and the facilities of the study enclosures.

The teaching staff of the university occupies an important place. The presence of doctors and candidates of science in most cases will allow to manage the defense of master`s theses and doctoral dissertations. It helps to create new scientific projects, increasing the scientific authority of the university. Besides, getting information about academic relations with foreign universities increases confidence in your choice.

Student life also has a role in choosing an educational institution. It is important that there are youth organizations, student clubs, other organizations, as well as a center where students can really solve their social problems.
