Meeting with first-year students on International Translators Day

On October 09, 2023, at the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation of the Institute of Philology of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, a traditional meeting of senior students with first-year students of the translation department was organized by A.K. Zhumabekova professor of the Department, as part of the celebration of International Translators Day. Senior students spoke about how this professional holiday is celebrated around the world.

4th year student Kuanishbaeva Merey and 3rd year student Bektemir Zhanerke spoke to the first-year students.

Kuanishbaeva Merey spoke about her studies at Giresun University (Turkey) during the spring semester of the last academic year as part of academic mobility. The student elaborated on the requirements that are put forward to applicants for competitive selection for this program, shared her tips for preparing for this competition, and also spoke about the wide opportunities that our university provides for active creative students. She expressed gratitude to the university management for the financial support of the air travel, given the fact that she is studying on a paid basis.

Bektemir Zhanerke spoke about her experience of participating and winning 2nd place in the international literary translation competition "School of Young Translators: Russia - Hungary - Kazakhstan" (adviser - Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation A.K. Zhumabekova), organized by the Institute of Translation (Moscow), won a grant for summer training at this school. Zhanerke, among the winners of the competition, was trained at the School of Translators in the writer town of Peredelkino near Moscow From June 18 to June 24 of this year.

The meeting was very interesting, the first-year students asked many questions and expressed a desire to participate in such events more often. The event was also attended by senior lecturers N.R. Shengelbaeva, A.M. Sebdayirova.
