International Environmental Marathon

On April 15, 2024, the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University hosted an international conference dedicated to the problem of "Preserving the ecosystem of the Aral Sea". The conference was attended by the President of the World Health Organization, Mr. Osama Ali Mahir (Egypt), Professor of Adam Mickiewicz University Peter Klimasik (Poland), Professor of Northwestern Jiaton University S. K. Krivonogov, Professor of the University of Environmental Engineering Zhao Xiaou (China), Professor Snozanina Leroy (France), researcher at the University of Evolution Sebastian Joannin (Canada) and delegates from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, etc.

After the rector of Korkyt-Ata University, B.S. Karimova introduced the guests and gave the floor to the foreign guests. Professors Osan Ali Mahir, Petr Ka Klimashik, Zhao Xiaowan and others called on all participants to pay attention to the issue of protecting the Aral Sea, stressing that there is no interstate border in the protection of environmental disasters, that this is a common international problem. To do this, the World Health Organization (WHO) proposed to consider the "International Fund for the Protection of the Aral Sea" with the involvement of international organizations, UNESCO, etc.

In particular, the president of the Limnological Society of Poland, Professor Piotr Klimasik, noting that the Aral Sea is a common problem for the whole world, proposed starting today to develop a scientific project of the international scientific and ecological center "Saving the Aral Ecosystem", subordinate to a single center. The proposal was supported by the participants, and the decision was made. Similarly, Zhao Xiaowan, S. Leroy, S. In their speeches, Zhuannin expressed gratitude for the work of the "International Environmental Marathon" and proposed to involve researchers from universities in Central Asia and Kazakhstan in this issue and call for activity. Russian scientists and researchers who spoke together with foreign guests also expressed their opinion. Including a specially invited professor, a leading environmental researcher from KazNPU named after Abay J. B. In his speech, Shildebayev noted that for more than 20 years he has been working in conjunction with Korkyt Ata University to study the problem of the Aral Sea as a result of research on the Aral Sea region in 3 volumes "Geography, Ecology of plants and animals of the Kyzylorda region" and "Ecology and Ecology Development", as well as graduate dissertations of masters and doctoral students devoted to the problem raising this issue.

Following the meeting, a decision was made on the proposals of foreign and domestic research scientists announced at the conference:

1. The work of the International Environmental Marathon was fruitful. To entrust the marathon of the next conference to the state of Uzbekistan;

2. To open and approve the composition of the International Center for the Study of the Island`s Ecosystems.

During the flood in Kazakhstan, i.e. the international rise of the Aral Sea problem, for the general public, the protection of the nature of the native land, of course, awakens patriotic feelings in every conscious citizen.

It should be noted that KazNPU named after Abay was elected an active member of the International Center for the Study of the Aral Ecosystem.
