Fire of the Winter Universiade-2019 in Almaty

On 24 September in Almaty in front of Baluan Sholak Sports Palace held a solemn ceremony of greeting the fire of the Winter Universiade. The next Winter Universiade will be held in March 2019 in Krasnoyarsk, and now the baton of its transfer is taken by Kazakhstan.

Participants of the relay carried fire along the streets and avenues of Almaty. In general, the torchbearers ran a baton with a length of 2.5 km.

15 torchbearers participated in the race, including the president of President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Oleg Matytsin, Deputy Minister of Sport of Russian Federation Natalya Parshikova, the president of the National Student Sports Union of Kazakhstan, the member of the FISU Executive Committee Kairat Zakiryanov, the Olympic champion in the Greco- Roman wrestling Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov, bronze prize-winner of the Olympic Games in boxing Islam Kanat, bronze medalist of the European mini-football championship Dinmukhambet Suleimanov, double silver at the World Biennial Universiade Biathlon Vassily Podkorytov, rector of the International University of Information Technologies Damir Shynybekov. The rector of our university Takir Balykbayev took part in the relay race as a torchbearer.

The Almaty stage of the torch relay of the Winter Universiade-2019 ended with a festive program on the square in front of the Palace of the Republic.
