International discussion platform in St. Petersburg
«Children`s books like wings»

From March 26 to March 31, 2019 twelve 2nd year students of specialties «5B011800 - Russian language and literature» and «5B012200 - Russian language and literature in schools with non-Russian language of education», which passed the competitive selection, participated in the discussion platform-2019 «Children`s books like wings»organized by the Institute of Childhood of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Gerzen (St. Petersburg).

Among the invited participants were students and undergraduates from other cities of Russia (Tomsk, Perm, Yekaterinburg), as well as graduate students from Armenia (Erevan) and Poland (Slupsk).

The program of the event included:
- discussion platform on the problems and conflicts of modern children`s books,
- scientific seminar on the semantic aspects of children`s literature of the XX-XXI centuries,
- visiting two branches of the central city library named after A.S. Pushkin,
- sightseeing tour of places associated with writers who lived in St. Petersburg,
- an interactive quest for literary works in the General Staff Building at Palace Square,
- attendance of two performances: «The Twelve» based on the eponymous poem by A. Blok (Alexandria Theater) and «Loneliness in the Net» (Baltic House).

Our students took an active part in all events. They showed a good knowledge of the works on the discussion platform, discussed conflicts in children`s books with conviction, expressed their opinions, and defended their position.

At the scientific seminar from our university, three reports that aroused a keen interest of the audience were presented:
- Alexandra Lebedeva. «Three scenarios of life in the book of D. Sabitova «Three of your names»,
- Anastasia Potapenko. «The story of one friendship in the book of M. Parr «Tonya Glimmerdal»,
- Arailym Nusipbekova. «Paradoxes of upbringing in the book of R. Dahl «Matilda».

All twelve of our students received certificates for participating in the discussion platform, gift copies of children`s books and rich experience of scientific cooperation with other universities.

The participants of the international scientific meeting of students are grateful to our university for this opportunity and warmly thank the Institute of Childhood of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Gerzen represented by associate professor M.S. Kostyukhina for the warm welcome and excellent organization of the event, which is important for the international scientific cooperation of young people.
