Round table dedicated to the memory of victims of political repressions and famine


On May 31, 2021, at the Department of World History of the Institute of History and Law, a round table was held on the topic «Representation of images of victims of political repression and famine in the 20th century: based on information from the museum funds of KarLAG`s, ALZHIR`s, Museum of Victims of Political Repression of Shymkent City and Zhanalyk Village». The event was dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions and Famine.


Head of the Department of World History Assymova Dariya opened the event and made an opening speech. An employee of the «ALZHIR» museum in Akmola region, Kydyrbayeva Nazerke, conducted an online video tour for the participants of the event on the territory of the museum. Asem Zhumabayeva, an employee of the «KarLAG» museum in the village of Dolinka, Karaganda region, spoke about the victims of political repression and famine in the 20th century and the work of the «KarLAG» museum. The curator of the fund of the Shymkent Museum of Victims of Political Repression Abdykali Birzhan gave information about the exhibits and the work done by the museum. Ruslan Seitkaziev, senior lecturer of the Department of World History of Abai KazNPU, organized a virtual tour in the Museum of Victims of Political Repression in the village of Zhanalyk, Talgar District, Almaty Region. Professor of the Department of World History of Abai KazNPU Suteeva Khanzada made a report «Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the issue of rehabilitation and perpetuating the memory of victims of political repression during the years of Stalinist terror». A 3rd year student of the Department of World History, specialty «History and Religious Studies 5В013000» Aidyn Kulekenov performed the composition «Көңіл толқыны», as well as a 1st year student of the specialty «History and Geography 6В02209» Aminov Baurzhan read a verse dedicated to the victims of political repression.


The event was attended by students, undergraduates and faculty of the Institute of History and Law.


Head of the Department of World History Assymova Dariya summed up the results of the round table, noting the importance of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression and Famine for the younger generation. All participants thanked the organizers for hosting such a meaningful event and shared their thoughts on the topic.
