Rector of Abai KazNPU Darkhan Bilyalov held a report meeting with the population of Almaty

On September 17, 2021, a reporting meeting of the Chairman of the Board-rector of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University Darhan Bilalov with the population of Almaty was held. The event was held in an online format on the ZOOM platform and was broadcasted on the YouTube channel and official Instagram pages.

The meeting was attended by Maslikhat deputies, public representatives of Almaty, the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Rectors of universities and other educational institutions of the city, employees of the city and Medeu akimats, mass media, university professors and students, as well as parents of students.

In his report Rector Darkhan Bilyalov summed up the results of the academic year 2020/2021, gave a detailed analysis of educational, scientific and innovative, financial and economic, social and educational activities of the university, noted the achievements, identified strategic objectives and priorities for the development of the university, as well as the expected results for the new academic year and the future.

Abai University, the country`s major pedagogical university, has shown positive dynamics in terms of the enrolment of university entrants. One of the key indicators of the strategic development of the University has been achieved - a significant increase in the number of students at all levels of education. The contingent has increased in both quantitative and qualitative indicators compared to previous years.

The efficiency and quality of educational services is confirmed by the leading positions among pedagogical universities of the republic in national ratings.

The activity of Abai KazNPU as a national educational and scientific-methodical centre of sectoral education is directed to improvement of training of pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical staff in conditions of updating of content of secondary education and new requirements to professional competence of a teacher.

Increasing demands from society for the training of critically thinking and functionally literate teachers, capable of continuous updating their knowledge, determine the use of modern methods and technologies of education.

The demand for graduates in the labour market and employers` satisfaction with the quality of their professional training greatly contribute to the effectiveness of the university`s work. The employers of graduates of pedagogical specialities of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University are the educational institutions not only in Almaty and Almaty region, but also in all regions of the republic. In the first year after graduation, 95-97% of graduates are employed.

Science plays a key role in the educational process in all leading universities, including Abai KazNPU.

Darkhan Bilyalov highlighted the university`s strategic goals in this direction, the projects underway and the results achieved.

«In the short term we see the model of the involved university, aimed at solving specific problems of education in Almaty and the country as a whole, such as the introduction and translation of innovative educational practices, raising the status of the teacher, providing the education system with qualified teaching staff.

In the light of the requirements of the day the University will provide a professional training of teachers in the three languages, providing them with the opportunity of speaking and teaching», Mr. Bilyalov said.

The Rector noted new directions in the activities of Abai KazNPU. Thus, educational programs on modern professions will be created, such as Cyber-educator, educational designer, curator of the online platform, web psychologist, etc.

It is envisaged to strengthen the research capacity of the University through participation in projects of research assistants/researchers; reduce the workload of the teaching staff through the work of doctoral students; and obtain EdD degrees from heads of educational organisations.

As stressed by the head of the university: «We intend to develop scientific schools in the field of «Pedagogical Sciences» by strengthening human resource capacity, attracting strong academic teaching staff, supporting young talented researchers, as well as annual allocation of 30 internal grants, increasing the duration of grant research work from 12 months to 3 years.

The Rector also noted that Abai University will become a university of high social responsibility. The new direction of social work with students «Educator is an agent and leader of change» provides for strengthening ties with employers; development of students` leadership skills and emotional intelligence; formation of an active professional and civic position through service learning and volunteering.

Thus, all the above-mentioned directions and measures to create conditions for quality education and versatile development of young people are in harmony with the state policy.

During the report, the achievements and awards of the teaching staff and students were announced. Professional development of teachers is carried out on regular courses in various disciplines, winter and summer schools, internships and English language courses organized by the University. Works on realization of educational and scientific-innovative projects in the sphere of pedagogical education and pedagogical sciences, realization of coordination, support and development of scientific, scientific-methodical and creative potential of educational institutions of the republic were marked out.

At the report meeting, the floor was also given to guests of the event. Noting a fruitful work of Abai KazNPU and its new rector, they made proposals for the further development of the leading educational institution of the country and wished them new successes.

All participants of the meeting had an opportunity to ask questions to the rector and get comprehensive answers. Those who didn`t have time to ask their questions were invited to submit them in writing. Their answers will be placed on the University website.
