My future profession is translator

On February 23, 2022 a meeting on the topic «My future profession - translator» was held with participation of US citizen Jordan Lee (Texas A&A, Sam Houston State University) and students of the specialty «Translation studies» (2nd and 3rd years) of the Institute of Philology and Multilingual Education, organized by professors of the department «Oriental Philology and Translation» Zhumabekova A.K. and Shengelbayeva N.R. Masters U. Islyamova, A. Ikramova, A. Sebdairova, A. Mukhitov and K. Ibragimova also took part in the event.

The event for future translators was held according to the method of immersion in a foreign language, that is, the preferred language of communication between students and English native speaker.

The traditional acquaintance of the guest with the students continued with a discussion on topics, during the discussion of which the students tried to show not only their knowledge of the English language at the proper level, but also their awareness, knowledge regarding the advantages of knowing two or more foreign languages, the importance of a career in the profession, as well as the difficulties and Opportunities for the career growth of an interpreter in modern society.

In the process of communicating with Jordan, the guys noted his openness and ease, which, in turn, served to create an atmosphere of goodwill and cognitive activity of students.

The event traditionally ended with words of gratitude, mutual wishes of success in all endeavors and the presentation of souvenirs in the person of the head of the department K.Kh.Abdrakhmanova and senior teacher K.K. Ibragimova.

Special thanks to Guljan Apatova (Jordan Lee`s assistant) and young English teachers - Ulpan Islyamova, Aigerim Ikramova, Arupzhan Mukhitov, Aigerim Sebdairova, who, as moderators, tried to support our students in their foreign language communication with a native speaker of the language being studied.
