Roundtable «Reform of Latin-Kazakh Script: Present and Future»

 

On April 14, 2022 a round table on «Reform of the Latin and Kazakh script: present and future» was held by the research and practice laboratory «Latyn» at the Scientific Innovation Park Abai LABS of Abai KazNPU and the Higher School of Humanities at the Caspian University.

 

Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor F. Orazbayeva made a presentation on «Reform of national script: principles» and dwelled on the basic principles of the Latin alphabet. The basic principles of the writing reform that preserve integrity of the language, including harmony of the national code and national identity, global civilization, competitiveness, and information space were presented. The quality of the alphabet was also analysed.

 

Professor of the Kirabayev Kazakh Language and Literature Department of the Institute of Philology Kalybayeva K.S. made a report on «Actual problems of written Latin-Kazakh language» about phonemic, phonetic, morphological, traditional and historical principles of new orthographic rules, the law of harmony and harmony in Kazakh language, main norms developed in writing practice to the present time. Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences R. Rakhmetova during her presentation on «Methods of studying Latin alphabet» analyzed the main methods proposed by A. Baitursynov and T. Shonanov. Rasalieva N. M., a member of the Orthography Group under the National Commission and leading researcher of the Baitursynov Institute of Linguistics, presented a report «Language protectionism as a mechanism for maintaining national identity». The discussion of the topic of the meeting was continued by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Associate Professor Kirichok O.V., Dean of the Graduate School of Humanities, Tairov A.T. and Deputy Dean for Science of the same institution Nogaybayeva Zh.

 

The round table was attended by teachers, representatives of educational institutions, students, undergraduates and doctoral students.
