Student excursion to the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction

Study tour for 3rd year students of specialty «6B01513-Biology» of Institute of Natural Sciences and Geography to show the work of laboratory «Seed bank» of Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction was held on November 21-23, 2022. The event was organized by the teaching staff of the Biology Department of General Biology: D.Kaidarbayeva, K.H.Makhmudova, R.U.Saimova, R.J.Junusova, A.Tolegen and A.Taldybay.

The main purpose of the group excursion was to increase students` interest in research work and to develop cooperation with the Seed bank laboratory.

Staff of the Institute T.Sh. Murzataeva, K.Sh. Aytimbetova, U.K. Dzhetigenova, B.K. Bilibayeva, A.S. Elubayeva, B.S. Dukenbayeva, A.Zh. Alpysova, S.D. Sarzhanova told about scientific projects of the laboratory. The students were informed about the work on expedition trip, collection and reception of materials, primary cleaning and drying, preliminary freezing of seeds, secondary cleaning, description and determination of their viability, final drying, distribution to collections, as well as work on collection and storage of herbarium, mycology and algology. Researchers from each laboratory department gave a detailed presentation of their research areas. The progress of work with laboratory instruments was demonstrated. The excursion was conducted at a high level. The students showed interest and expressed their desire to become involved in science in the future. They thanked the researchers of the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction for a very useful event.
