A preventive seminar on the topic «Measles prevention» was held

Currently, there is an unfavorable epidemiological situation for measles in the city of Almaty. In this regard, the Department of Education, Social Work and Youth Policy, together with the doctors of the Health Center, in order to prevent this infectious disease among students, organized a preventive seminar on «Measles Prevention».

The speaker of the event held for the purpose of measles prevention was S.D. Infectious disease doctor Lazzat Kalabayovna Tokayeva, teacher of the «Internal Diseases» department of KazNMU named after Asfendiyarov, told students that timely vaccination is a reliable tool against measles. In addition, she explained that measles is a viral disease with similar symptoms of SARS, such as fever, runny nose, cough, and rashes appear on the 4-5th day of the disease.

Also, Lazzat Kalabayovna: «Measles is highly infectious and transmitted through airborne droplets. The only source of infection is a sick person. A patient with measles is dangerous to others 4 days before and 4 days after the appearance of a rash on the body. Measles is now mostly registered among people who were not vaccinated in childhood. Therefore, in accordance with the national vaccination calendar, children are vaccinated twice at the age of 12-15 months and at the age of 6 years», he said during the lecture.

In conclusion, the specialist noted that the role of nutrition, sleep and work regime is important for maintaining immunity. She also explained to the students that it is necessary to pay attention to your health and seek medical help in a timely manner.
