On 27 September, 2017 in a large conference hall of the House of Scientists was held a meeting with the population of the rector Abai KazNPU Professor Takir O. Balykbayev, which was attended over 500 people: members of the Supervisory Board of Abai KazNPU, rectors of universities, directors of  the scientific-research institutes of the NAS RK, Almaty school, gymnasiums directors and teachers, representatives of Almaty City administration and Medeu district administration, general consulates of foreign countries in Almaty, mass media, students, graduates of the university and parents.

During the report meeting, the rector of Abai KazNPU scholarly reported about the results of work for the 2016/2017 academic year, shared the perspective plans for the university development.

The university staff activity was dedicated to the tasks of strategic development, the main achievements of which include the promotion and strengthening of the positions of Abai KazNPU in international and national rankings: QS World University Ranking is the 491st place (for the first time Abai KazNPU entered in the TOP500 universities of the world), Web of Science - 1st place among pedagogical universities of the republic in terms of the number of publications with impact-factor.

Special attention in the report was paid to the achievements of the staff in teaching, scientific-research, educational and socio-cultural work, the best students and teachers were noted.

As educational initiatives of the university, the introduction of 23 educational programs of pedagogical specialties of the new generation, the development in English of educational programs (Physics, Informatics, Chemistry, Biology) and 19 university textbooks recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for introduction in pedagogical universities of the republic from 2017/2018 academic year, the development of educational programs in dual specialties for the preparation of small-scale schools  teachers.

The tasks assigned to the university staff in the medium term are outlined. First, in order to improve the quality of the pedagogical education of the republic, Abai KazNPU should develop the training and professional development of the staff of regional pedagogical universities, and, secondly, qualitatively transform the structure and content of the educational programs of pedagogical specialties.

The University as the leading center of pedagogical education within the framework of the implementation of the ideas and provisions of the program article of the Head of State «Course towards the future: modernization of Kazakhstan`s identity» will provide scientific, theoretical and scientific and methodological support and support for the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet, will continue to improve the content of educational programs of pedagogical specialties in accordance with the updated content of secondary education and the transition of the Kazakh language into Latin script, will initiate the development of a new put the structure and content of secondary school textbooks in the Latin alphabet.

As a research university, it is planned to increase the participation of teaching staff in competitions for grants of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, other organizations and funds, to introduce a project approach for financing scientific research, to increase the science budget to 2-3% in the next three years, to create a Center for Pedagogical Technologies, specialized pedagogical laboratories and etc .

In the report noted the importance of internationalization and export of education, the expansion of international scientific and educational cooperation, the formation of a highly cultured personality of a graduate with an active civic stand and high social responsibility, the development of management and the infrastructure of the university.

A special role in the implementation of the University Development Strategy is played Supervisory Board ofAbai KazNPU, which identifies the priority areas and prospective development plans: the transformation of Abai KazNPU into a research and digital university, the creation of a single center for student service, the construction of a new student dormitory, an assembly hall for 600 seats, the modernization of educational buildings, auditoriums and scientific and educational laboratories, objects of socio-cultural and sporting purposes, the creation of a digital library.

To achieve the goals and objectives generally necessary a qualitative change in style, principles and the whole management system.

The activity of Abai KazNPU as a national pedagogical university with a special status will be aimed at increasing the academic reputation and reputation among employers, strengthening the leading positions in the field of teacher education and science.

The forthcoming 90th anniversary of the university should become not only a unique result of achievements, but also a new stage of innovative development.

At the end of the reporting meeting T.O. Balykbayev answered on the questions of audience about the development prospects of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute, the updating of educational and laboratory equipment, the problems of training preschool specialists, collaborative working with scientific institutes on the preparation of scientific and pedagogical staff, writing textbooks, scientific and methodological support for the transition of the Kazakh language into Latin alphabet, support of talented youth and young scientists, etc.
