Seminar on the competitiveness of universities of Kazakhstan

On February 12, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University held an international seminar «Universities of Kazakhstan in the international arena: improving competitiveness» with the Association of Rectors of Almaty region.

The aim of the seminar is to facilitate the expansion of Kazakhstan HEI`s participation in the global rankings, which in turn will enable the university to become part of the international educational environment; harmonization of educational and research processes with international standards and standards in the field of education.

Rector of Abay KazNPU Takir Balykbaev, Zoya Zaitseva - Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of QS Ltd (UK);invited speakers:Nurlan Kiyasov - Director of the Center for Online Education at Ed Crunch University NRTU «MISA», Director of the Endowment Fund of NRTU «MISA» (Russia); Elena Chernyshkova - Head of Educational Practice at Stanton Chase (Russia), heads and representatives of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, directly involved in management, international activities and assessment of quality analysis in the field of higher education, heads of structural divisions of the university attended the seminar.

Rector of KazNPU Takir Balykbaev in his speech informed participants of the seminar about the achievements of the University: According to QS World University Rankings-2019, KazNPU entered the top 500 in the world. In January 2019, the university`s website was ranked fourth in the Webometrics-2019 rating. Among the sites of pedagogical higher education institutions of Kazakhstan, the site of KazNPU is the first.

Takir Balykbayev noted the importance of the international seminar on the competitiveness of universities in the global educational space. «Entrance to the world educational space promotes the intellectual potential of the nation and its competitiveness. In order to achieve the highest goals it is necessary to carry out systematic and result-oriented work, in particular, the achievements should be assessed on the rating. Raising the University`s rankings requires a clear university strategy that combines the efforts of the whole team in this direction».

During the seminar, the speakers were:Regional Director, QS International Rating Organization Zoya Zaitseva, EdCrunch University, Director of the Online Education Center, Nurlan Kiyasov, Director of the Endowment Fund of NRTU «MISA» («Challenges for the future of education»), Elena Chernyshkova, the head of educational practice at Stanton Chase («Recruiting International Staff: The Role of University Reputation»).

Zoya Zaitseva - Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of QS Ltd (UK) offers spoke about the world rankings of universities, key performance indicators, methods of collecting and presenting data, improving the university awareness: optimizing the website, participating in B2B and B2C events, and interacting with the press.

Director of the Endowment Fund of NRTU «MISA» Nurlan Kiyasov told about strategic leadership of the university, continuous cooperation with graduates, creation of charity funds, responses to the challenges facing the future of education.

The head of educational practice at Stanton Chase Elena Chernyshkova noted in her report the importance of attracting international employees: their importance in raising the prestige of the University.

The seminar was very informative, the discussion of the issues presented at the seminar was constructive (it is necessary to implement ideas without delay). At the end of the event the participants were awarded certificates.
