Conducting intermediate and final certification of students in the conditions of distance learning

Testing Center of Abai KazNPU introduced the practice of conducting intermediate and final certification using distance technologies from 04/01/2020 to 04/27/2020.

To achieve the goal, the following tasks were solved:
1. Providing the intermediate and final certification procedure with appropriate program, organizational and methodological resources;
2. Organization and implementation of trial testing of students` knowledge using distance technologies;
3. Organization of the defense of diplomas and dissertations in video conferencing.

To ensure interaction, the cloud-based video conferencing service Hangouts Meet and the OES distance learning proctoring system were selected. The OES proctoring system has been integrated with the «Univer» corporate information system.

For the organization of intermediate and final certification, as well as the defense of diploma and master`s theses at the preparatory stage, a survey was conducted among students and faculty to obtain information about the availability of digital tools and access to the Internet. Based on the results of the questionnaire, a testing organization structure was developed, instructions for proctors and students in distance learning.

Director of the Testing Center D.N. Isabayeva conducted familiarization webinars on using the Hangouts Meet service and the OES pro-rating system. During the trial testing, stress testing of university information systems was organized.

For the organization and implementation of these events, the Center has developed the following instructions in Kazakh and Russian:
- organization and conduct of testing using remote technologies;
- conducting an appeal using remote technologies;
- setting an average score for midterm controls;
- use of the cloud service G Suite Hangouts Meet;
- conducting the defense of theses and master`s theses using distance technologies;
- use of proctoring systems.

Forms of online documentation are also prepared in Kazakh and Russian: schedule, protocol, turnout list, and questionnaire.

All documents are posted on the university`s website and in the Univer system, for familiarization and use by all participants of the intermediate and final certification procedures.

Specialists of the Testing Center carry out work to fill out the database of test items, organize familiarization of students with testing instructions and the appeal procedure.
