Kazakhstan through the eyes of foreigners

December 12, the teachers of «translation studies» specialty of the Institute of Philology and Multilingual Education organized an online Speaking Club «Kazakhstan through the eyes of foreigners» with a teacher from the United States Justin Laine for the students of this faculty.

After the presentation, questions were actively asked to the guest of the event:
- You have visited many countries of the world, but why did you stop in Kazakhstan?
- How long and difficult was it for You to get used to our country, since there are few people who speak English in Kazakhstan?
- Did you experience a culture shock when you came to our Republic?
- What is Your opinion now about our people, about our country after a certain period of residence in Almaty-and other questions.

The students were particularly interested In the answers of D. Laine, as a native speaker, to questions related to the study of foreign languages and the specifics of translation from English to other languages, namely: in which countries he has been, what foreign languages he speaks and what methods he used in learning these languages; how to successfully pass the IELTS exams; his opinion on the profession of a translator and even interested in the pronunciation of certain sounds of English.
