Lecture on “Psychological Development and Age Characteristics of Preschool Children”

On February 9, 2026, the Department of Preschool Education and Social Pedagogy of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University organized a lecture on the topic “Mental Development and Age Characteristics of Preschool Children.” The lecture was delivered by Dana Dauirbayeva, a 2nd-year doctoral student of the educational program 8D01201 – “Preschool Education and Upbringing” (academic supervisor — PhD, Acting Associate Professor Assem Bulshekbayeva).

The main objective of the lecture was to create conditions for students to gain a deep understanding of the patterns of psychological development of preschool children, their age-related characteristics, and the significance of these aspects in the process of education and upbringing. During the lecture, children’s cognitive processes (perception, thinking, memory, attention, and imagination), as well as emotional and personal development and behavioral characteristics, were examined in accordance with age stages.

The lecture content analyzed the key characteristics of psychological development in early childhood, middle, and senior preschool age groups, highlighting their role in organizing the educational process through concrete examples. To enhance students’ engagement, interactive methods such as question-and-answer sessions, discussions, situational tasks, and practical analysis were employed. Students analyzed pedagogical situations from a psychological perspective, taking into account children’s age characteristics.

The methods applied during the lecture contributed to integrating theoretical knowledge with practice, fostering a comprehensive understanding of child psychological development, and developing students’ pedagogical thinking. As a result of the lecture, students systematized their knowledge of the psychological development and age characteristics of preschool children and developed practical insights necessary for their future professional activities. The lecture concluded with a feedback activity titled “Mental Well-being: Take What You Need!”, which was conducted in a positive and engaging atmosphere.
