Best practices in writing quality research papers On 25 November 2024, Professor Lorant Denes David of John von Neumann University (Hungary) held a master class `Best Practices of Writing Scientific Papers` for teachers and students (doctoral, master`s and bachelor`s students) of the Department of Geography and Ecology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography. The purpose of the masterclass was to share with teachers and applicants the best international practices of writing scientific papers and the secrets of publishing articles in scientific journals indexed on the basis of Scopus and Web of Science.
At the masterclass, Professor Lorant Denes David shared his experience of writing scientific papers and pointed out that a scientific paper should be written based on real data. Scientific papers emphasised that following a standard structure such as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion, it is important that each section contains relevant information and is written in a logical sequence. In addition, research papers called for research findings and explanations to be presented objectively, without bias or personal opinion, and authors avoided making unsubstantiated claims or exaggerating the importance of their findings.
At this masterclass, faculty members and applicants learnt how to publish articles in scientific journals indexed on Scopus and Web of Science and how to apply them in practice. Such masterclasses will be an important step for young scientists to improve their skills in writing and publishing scientific articles and will contribute to their integration into the international scientific community.
