Patchwork and its development in Kazakhstan: Quilting and patchwork of the world

In honor of Science Day, the Department «Design» of the Institute of Arts, Culture and Sports of Abai KazNPU held an online seminar on «Patchwork in Kazakhstan and around the world» by Tamara Stroscher, president of the Patchwork Association of Kazakhstan, a member of the German Guild «Germany», on April 4, 2022.

Patchwork associations are active in many countries, especially in Russia, Japan, USA, Germany and others. But this unusual craft is better known around the world as patchwork. Needlewomen, who were engaged in patchwork in Kazakhstan for many years, gathered in small clubs or worked alone. They could not widely present their masterpieces to the public, share their creative successes and plans. Therefore it was urgent to establish an organization in the country that could support local masters, organize exhibitions, develop this art and revive national traditions, which had long roots in patchwork in Kazakhstan.

The goal of the association is to unite fans of this type of folk art, promote it as a unique cultural heritage of the Kazakh people, revive the national style of patchwork, which now arouses interest abroad and provide modern accessories, fabrics, sewing equipment for masters that enhance and accelerate their creative process. Shaping aesthetic tastes with the participation of new followers of this wonderful hobby and business serves the preservation and development of national and world traditions in the field of arts and crafts, active spiritual and moral education of the younger generation.

The organizers of this exciting event and its moderators were teachers of the Department, M.A.Derbisova and O.T.Abisheva. The participants of the seminar expressed their great gratitude and offered to continue developing them in this direction.
