Seminar-training «Monitoring the quality of the development of functional reading literacy of students (PISA)»

The development of students` functional reading literacy is a systematic and systematic process that needs to start as early as primary school.

On the 7th of March 2022 at the school «Bilimkana-Almaty» was held a three hour seminar-training «Monitoring the quality of the development of functional reading literacy of students (PISA)» for deputy directors on academic work of secondary education organizations of Almaty. The event was attended by the deputy principals of 20 schools of the city.

The aim was to provide the scientific and methodological support for the development of functional reading literacy of students in schools of Almaty. During the training, the content of lesson observation; skills of functional reading literacy and OECD recommendations on the methodology of development of students` reading literacy skills were discussed.

The training was organized by the UNESCO Chair in Pedagogy at Abai KazNPU and the Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Almaty. The training workshop was conducted by Ildana Khalitova, Head of the Chair.

At the end of the event the participants developed the monitoring plan and criteria for assessing the development of functional reading literacy of students in class. The participants expressed their gratitude to the University and the lecturer and noted the high level of the seminar. At the end of the seminar, it was decided to hold another meeting to discuss the results of practical application of the knowledge gained in the class.
