"Design and Research Methods in Teaching Chemistry and Natural Sciences: Epistemology, Ethics, and Practical Approaches" open lecture


On September 20, 2024, an open lecture on the topic "Design and Research Methods in Teaching Chemistry and Natural Sciences: Epistemology, Ethics, and Practical Approaches" took place at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. The special guest of the event was Hiroki Fujii, Ph.D., UNESCO Chair in Research and Education for Sustainable Development, Director of the Okayama University ESD Promotion Centre, and Professor at the Faculty of Education, Okayama University (Okayama, Japan). He shared his extensive experience in teaching chemistry with the students of our university.

 

The open lecture discussed topics such as integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into chemistry teaching and education on climate change. Hiroki Fujii shared methods and literature on education for sustainable development. The participants were introduced to world-class teaching methodologies for chemistry and received valuable guidelines. One of the examples presented was the teaching experience of educational institutions in Japan, demonstrated through the lens of chemistry lessons.

 

At the end of the open lecture, there was an exchange of opinions between the professor and the students.
