Developing Professional Competence within the Framework of the Sustainable Development Goals
On November 13-14, 2025, first and third-year students (groups 3 and 5) of the 6В05301- Chemistry, 6B01512-Chemistry-Biology program, accompanied by PhD, senior lecturer of the Department of Chemistry A.B. Uzakova, and second-year master`s students L. Kanapash and B. Bazarbay, took part in an educational excursion to the new second branch of the “Samal Water” enterprise.
The main purpose of the excursion was to enhance students` interest in the chemistry profession, integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience, and introduce them to natural water purification and bottling technologies, as well as chemical and environmental monitoring methods used in production. This event was carried out in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
During the excursion, students gained comprehensive information about the full technological cycle of drinking water production. They observed how PET bottles are made, how the pH level is measured before and after filtration, learned about the depth of the water well, and were introduced to the scientific criteria for determining water readiness for consumption. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and evaluate the production process from a sustainability perspective.
Participants noted that the trip provided valuable experience for their future professions. The excursion encouraged them to develop environmental responsibility, use resources efficiently, and better understand production culture focused on green technologies.
