Students visited the Sak-Uysun burial mounds

 

The Project Office «Rukhani Zhangyru» conducted the informative excursion to the archaeological complex «Boralday Sak barrows» on the topic «The World of Civilizations» for the students of the University on April 18, 2022, to celebrate the International Day of Monuments Protection.


Visit to the archaeological park in the open air was organized by the project «Sacral geography of Kazakhstan» in the framework of the state program «Rukhani zhangyru - Bolashakkа baghdar». The purpose - activation of spiritual knowledge and educational search of sacred places by students from remote regions, adaptation to skills of specialization, propaganda of deep history of the region.

 

Boralday Sak barrows are one of the six monuments included in the nationwide list of sacred sites in Almaty. The archaeological complex, consisting of 47 Sak and 200 Uysun burial mounds, is located in Alatau district, between the Ulken Almaty and Boraldai rivers. It is the only monument on the territory of Almaty with a history of more than two and a half thousand years, preserved from the early Iron Age.

 

About 60 university students were transported to the site by special bus to learn about local history, anthropology, archaeology, toponymy and ethnography of the unique site. The project was implemented on the basis of the Cultural Cooperation Agreement, with the support of the Department of Culture and the Almaty Museums Association.
