Scientific internship at Nazarbayev University

Within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Abay KazNPU and NLA Nazarbayev University, teachers from "Biology" department of the Institute of Natural Science and Geography Abay KazNPU, Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences Z.B. Tungushbayeva, Senior Lecturer, PhD Kulzhanova D.K., Senior Lecturer, PhD Nurkenov T.T., Senior Lecturer, PhD G.K. Tashenova passed a scientific internship in the following terms from 29.05. to 06.03.2023 at the "Laboratory of Bioengineering and Regenerative Medicine" of Nazarbayev University (NU). On the first day, 05.29.23, they visited the NU laboratories and got acquainted with the main areas of scientific research, information about laboratory equipment, and the rules of operation of the Bioengineering Laboratory. On May 30, the lecture "Fundamentals of the cultivation of eukaryotic cells" was listened to. On May 31, using methods for isolating mesenchymal stem cells from the bone marrow and adipose tissue of laboratory animals, studies were carried out on mice. After the experiment, a lecture on this topic was listened to. The next day, June 1, they got acquainted with the method of immunofluorescence microscopy. Cells with stained nuclei and actin were observed under a fluorescent microscope. On June 2 they participated in an experiment on staining preparations using histochemical research methods. A set of dyes from leading manufacturers Masson-Trichrome, Sigma-Aldrich-HT15_1KT was used. They mastered the methods of preparation of working solutions, deparaffinization of sections, obtaining a dye by mixing Weigert`s iron hematoxylin (heme A + heme B) and staining according to Ehrlich. Methods of dehydration, staining with hematoxylin-eosin and mucicarmine have also been studied.

Thus, the modern methods of molecular and cellular biology studied at NU can be used in future research projects.
