The Republican Discussion of the Professional Standard "Translator"
On October 28, 2020 The Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in accordance with the instructions of the Mazhilis of the Parliament and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, organized a meeting to discuss the project "Professional Standard" Translator".
The meeting was attended by representatives of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken", teachers of universities and colleges of the Republic of Kazakhstan, employees of translation bureaus and agencies.
From Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation, Zhumabekova Aigul Kazkenovna participated in the meeting. She proposed a motion on changing the requirements for the implementation of scientific translation, which requires the qualifications of Master`s and PhD graduates and a number of other comments.
Participants of the Republican meeting within the framework of the "Professional Standard Passport" discussed the competencies of the professions: "Translator" and "Interpreter"; their levels according to the National Qualifications Framework, the Sector Qualifications Framework, work functions, tasks, skills required for translators, depending on the types of texts of various genres.
This work is being carried out in our country for the first time. The significance of the discussed standard is extremely high, with high demand of society for qualified translations in various areas of life, as well as the increased requirements for the quality of the translations performed.
In this regard, a special role is assigned to higher and secondary specialized educational institutions that prepare specialists in "Translation". After the approval of this standard, the main task is to clarify, change educational programs, strengthen communication with the employers, etc.
