Almaty regional conference "Turkic writing and Kazakh alphabet"

On 20 July 2023, the Language Development Department of the Almaty Oblast Akimat organised a scientific and practical conference on "Turkic Writing and the Kazakh Alphabet". The opening ceremony was conducted by Aibol Nusipkhodzhaev, Acting Head of the Language Development Department of Almaty Oblast.

The conference was attended by akims and representatives of district administrations, teachers of Kazakh language and literature, representatives of district public associations and International Organisations "Kazak tili", as well as a group of scientists invited from Almaty, who in their speeches noted the importance and relevance of this event.

The first speaker was Ergali Yesbosynov, Acting Associate Professor of Abai KazNPU, with the report "Reflection of colourative lexicon in Turkic literary and linguistic sources"; then the following speakers took the floor: Zhubai Orynai - acting professor of Al-Farabi KazNU, Mukhtar Muratkhazin - associate professor of Abai KazNPU on "Kazakh writing - the golden beginning of Turkic script", Deputy Director General of the M.O.Auezov Institute of Art and Literature of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Associate Professor Torali Kydir on the topic "Peculiarities of language and script development in medieval Turkic sources", Zhanagul Sametova - PhD doctor of Abai KazNPU on "Onomastics and hydronyms associated with folk beliefs, colours and numbers of Turkic peoples".

The reports were accompanied by video materials and aroused keen interest of the participants. The main topic was the history of writing and alphabets of Turkic peoples, the evolution of the development of writing of Kazakhs.

At the end of the conference Aibol Nusipkhodzhaev solemnly presented the most active participants of the conference with letters of appreciation and honoraria for their work and scientific reports. Thanks were also given to Azamat Bakhytzhanuly and Bagdat Azimbayev of the Almaty Oblast Akimat for the excellent organisation of the conference.
