Research ethics issues were discussed

 

Elaine Sharplin, chair of Nazarbayev University`s Research Ethics Committee and professor of the Higher School of Education at Nazarbayev University, met with doctoral students at Abai University. Rector Darkhan Bilyalov, Head of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness Sheripidin Khamraev, Director of the Department of Science Ulzharkyn Abdigapbarova and young scientists took part in the meeting.

 

The purpose of the meeting was to develop modern research ethics and its principles, to expand international cooperation in research, exchange experiences in research work, formation of professional and moral standards among students.

 

Darkhan Bilyalov emphasised the importance of the meeting and the role of research ethics in reaching an international level in establishing a research university. Research ethics contributes to building a strong research culture, enhancing international research cooperation and increasing publication in scholarly international sources.

The parties discussed key topics such as defining research integrity - relevance and development, principles of research ethics involving human subjects, understanding and assessing risk in research in social sciences, development of modern research ethics, principles of research ethics, informed consent, researcher responsibilities, functions of Research Ethics Committee and completing an ethics review application.

 

Elaine Sharplin spoke in detail about the work being done in this area abroad and at Nazarbayev University, sharing her personal experience and answering numerous questions from doctoral students.

 

The meeting was productive and the participants expressed the interest in further cooperation.
