Abai University in Times Higher Education Asian Universities Rankings 2023

On June 22, 2023 the results of the next international Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023 were published, which included 669 universities from 31 countries. Tsinghua University, Peking University, the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong are at the top of the ranking.

Kazakhstan continues to increase its global prestige by participating in the Asian ranking of THE and is represented by 6 universities, 3 of which are included in the ranked list and 3 have been awarded the status of "Reporter". Thus, universities with traditionally strong research potential took the following positions: Al-Farabi Kazakh National University - 351-400, Gumilev ENU - 401-500, Satbayev University - 601+. The following universities, due to insufficient scientific productivity, according to THE, are marked as "Reporter" - these are Abai KazNPU, Karaganda Economic University of Kazpotrebsoyuz and Kokshetau State University. These universities need to increase such scientometric indicators as "Research" and "Citation", the summary share of which is 60% of all other indicators.

The methodology of THE Asia University Rankings 2023 uses the same 5 main directions as in THE WUR, however, the proportion of points in the directions has been changed in order to reflect the specifics and priorities of universities in the Asian region: Teaching - 25%, Research - 30%, Citation - 30%, International output - 7.5%, Income from industry - 7.5%.
