Recently, on November 13–14, 2025, the 25th Central Asian Media Conference was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The event was organized by the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media (RFoM). The conference, which took place at the InterContinental Tashkent Hotel, was dedicated to the theme "Implementing Media Viability for an Informed and Resilient Society". It brought together more than 150 experts, media representatives, and journalists from Central Asia and Mongolia.

On the second day of the conference, November 14, during the fourth session titled "Engaging the Audience: Media Literacy on the Frontline Against Disinformation", held in the Ball Hall, important research findings from a group of Kazakhstani scholars were presented.

Professor Gulmira Sultanbaeva of the Department of Humanities, Faculty of History and Law, at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, participated as a speaker in this session.

Under the leadership of Professor Gulmira Sultanbaeva, a team of scholars presented applied results of the project "AP19679909 Development of an Information Resource in the Field of Digital Literacy for Identifying Indicators of Fake Information and Disinformation in Kazakhstan", carried out under a grant funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The main product of the project is the mobile application RasInfo, which is the first domestic and unique resource based on artificial intelligence (AI) designed to counter fake information.

The RasInfo resource combines tools for enhancing digital literacy and fact-checking. It is available in Kazakh, Russian, and English, and includes the AI-based application AI-Derek, educational modules, and analyses of fact-checking cases. The results of the project fully correspond to the strategic goals of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of digital transformation. During the research, challenges related to adapting AI to national datasets and the Kazakh language were highlighted. As a recommendation, the need to prioritize scientific and technological development and its integration into education was emphasized.

 

Professor Gulmira Sultanbaevas presentation demonstrated the contribution this resource can make to strengthening Kazakhstans information security and developing the critical thinking skills of society. On the OSCE platform, the contribution of Kazakhstani scholars to the fight against fake information was presented at the international level.
