The 10th Central Asian Journalism Seminar on the topic Artificial Intelligence and Digital Literacy: New Challenges in Combating Disinformation was held in Almaty.
According to Vlastimil Samek, Head of the UN Information Office in Kazakhstan and Representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Kazakhstan, the seminar was dedicated to Human Rights Day, which is observed worldwide on 10 December each year.

The event was officially opened by Ertai Sultan, Vice Rector for Research and Innovation of Abai KazNPU, who delivered a presentation on Digital Literacy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. The seminar was attended by scholars from foreign universities as well as researchers from Al Farabi KazNU, Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, Turan University, and international research institutions.

Vlastimil Samek spoke about the practical use of artificial intelligence technologies to strengthen digital literacy and counter disinformation in Central Asia.

Professor Gulmira Sultanbayeva from the Department of Humanities, Faculty of History and Law at Abai KazNPU, presented the mobile platform RasInfo as a creative tool for fact checking and media literacy. She noted that AI Derek is a tool designed to counter fake information, based on fact checking and describing the practical experience of applying such technologies. AI Derek is integrated with the RasInfo mobile platform and provides answers to user questions related to fact checking.

 

The seminar also featured the presentation of collective monographs and methodological guides titled Digital Literacy Indicators System for Developing Information Culture in Kazakhstan and Indicators of Fake Information and Disinformation in Kazakhstan. These scientific works analyze the systemic and hybrid nature of information processes in Kazakhstan.
