Republican Subject Olympiad on the speciality `Foreign Philology (Turkish language)`

On May 6, 2024 on the basis of the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abai at the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation held the 2nd stage of the Republican Subject Olympiad on the speciality `Foreign Philology (Turkish language)`. Organisers of the event were the head of the department, Nazym Nurbolatovna Konkabaeva and teachers of Turkish language, Ergali Esbosynov, Gulnaz Satbay, Dinara Ashimova and Nurjamal Kospaganbetova.

Students of Abay Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Khoja Akhmet.

Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University took part in the Olympiad. The opening of the Olympiad began with the welcoming speech of the Director of the Department of Academic Affairs, Doctor of Land Sciences, Professor Zhanbekov Khairulla Nyshanovich. Kh.N. Zhanbekov noted the activity of the teaching staff and students of the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation in terms of teaching, science, social events, noting that such a complex matter as the Language Olympiad is consonant with the policy of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Kemelevich Tokayev in international humanitarian relations.

Mr Ayhan Korkmaz, Head of the Education Department of the Almaty Consulate of the Republic of Turkey, noted that relations between the two countries in the cultural and humanitarian sphere have traditionally developed at a high level. Noting that one of the important events determining the scope of foreign language teaching is the Language Olympiad, he reviewed the system of Kazakh language teaching in Turkey and the processes in Turkish language teaching in Kazakhstan.

Head of the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation Nazym Nurbolatovna Konkabaeva introduced the students and scientific supervisors participating in the Olympiad, as well as the chairman and jury members of the Olympiad with the programme of the competition. The main purpose of the Olympiad is to determine and evaluate the foreign language skills in terms of professional competence.

At the Olympiad, which consists of two rounds, the students of this university showed their knowledge and language abilities. After the language and theoretical competition they defended a project work on the topic they had prepared on the advice of their supervisors.

By decision of the Chairman of the Jury, Associate Professor of Kazakh National Women`s Teacher Training University Abuova Akzharkyn and jury members Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Faculty of Philology, Department of Language Theory and Turkology, Associate Professor Shynarai Burkitbaeva, Associate Professor of Abai KazNPU Ergali Esbosynov the first prize-winning place was taken by a student of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Zubaidam Akbarzhanova. 2nd place was shared by a student of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University Laura Saliullakyzy and a student of the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University Asel Kaldybai, 3rd place - students of the Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages Aiymgul Kasymbai, Zhuldyz Saipkhanova and student of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Begimai Abilmagin. At the expense of the rectorate of Abai KazNPU, a monetary payment of 50,000 tenge was awarded for the first place, for the second-30,000 tenge and for the third-20,000 tenge.

At the end of the Olympiad, the head of the department N.N. Konkabaeva awarded the students who took the prize-winning places with a letter of thanks from the rector of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University and gave certificates for cash prizes and valuable gifts. The Olympiad showed that teachers of Turkish language are highly qualified specialists, and also showed the scale of internationally orientated events.
