Historical and educational meeting «Socio-political activities of Sanjar Asfendiyarov»

On October 22, 2024, the National Educational Center «Hakim Abai» and the Orazala Dosbosynov School of Young Poets at Abai University organized a meeting with Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Khankeldy Abzhanov on the topic «Socio-political activities of Sanjar Asfendiyarov».

The purpose of the educational event is to familiarize young people with the life and work of the famous statesman and public figure, historian, doctor, professor S.Asfendiyarov, popularize his scientific works and significant contribution to the development of academic science in Kazakhstan and promote the intellectual potential of the country.

Vice-rector for Social Development Maksat Zhakau stressed that Sanzhar Asfendiyarov was one of the founders of Abai KazNPU and its first rector, who accepted the first students in 1928. The famous scientist and teacher made an invaluable contribution to the formation of the educational and material base of the educational institution, providing teachers and textbooks.

The guest of the meeting told about the life and work of Sanjar Asfendiyarov, about his active socio-political work and that in 1938 he was arrested as an enemy of the people and sentenced to death under false pretenses. The academician also shared new information about S.Asfendiyarov`s contribution to the education and healthcare system of Kazakhstan, noting his research in the field of history.

Prominent statesman and public figure Sanjar Asfendiyarov was fully rehabilitated in 1958. About 200 students took part in the event dedicated to his 135th birthday, who got acquainted with the fate and works of the historical figure.
