THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR ON ACADEMIC COMPETENCIES HAS STARTED

On December 3, 2025, Abai University launched a professional development seminar titled “Modern Approaches and Tools for Updating Academic Processes in Higher Education Institutions.” The event brought together faculty deans, vice-deans for academic affairs, heads of departments, developers of educational programs, as well as academic and teaching staff.

The aim of the seminar is to introduce modern tools designed to enhance academic policy in higher education institutions, develop educational programs, assess quality, and modernize innovative teaching strategies based on international best practices.

At the opening ceremony, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Abai University, Banu Narbekova, and the First Vice-Rector of Astana IT University, Serik Omirbayev, delivered welcoming remarks. They emphasized the importance of strengthening academic self-governance, improving the quality of higher education, and fostering a management culture that meets contemporary requirements.

The seminar program includes informative lectures and practical sessions on academic policy, key documents of the Bologna Process, stages of developing educational programs, describing learning outcomes, transforming assessment systems, and student-centered teaching methods. Among the speakers are: First Vice-Rector of Astana IT University S.M. Omirbayev, Director of CSQAD of Astana IT University A.R. Faizullin, and Vice-Rector for Academic Work of Astana IT University G.S. Akybayeva.

Throughout the three-day seminar, participants will enhance their skills in designing educational programs through group work, explore practical aspects of constructivist methods, and gain experience in developing effective assessment criteria.

The seminar, aimed at modernizing academic activities in higher education institutions, improving the quality of education, and advancing modern pedagogical design, will conclude on December 5, after which participants will be awarded certificates confirming their professional development.
