20.02.2018 Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev Approves New Alphabet Based on Latin
The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev approved a new version of the Kazakh alphabet on the basis of Latin graphics, having signed the relevant decree. This is reported on the official website of the Head of the Republic.
The first version of the alphabet consisted of 32 letters, it widely used apostrophes, which, according to many experts and ordinary citizens, made it difficult to read and write.
In the new alphabet, approved by the president, there are still 32 letters, but there are no more apostrophes. It contains only two digraphs widely recognized in the world practice - sh and ch for the sounds «sh» and «h».
The new alphabet is as close as possible to the graph used in international communication.
