Kazakh-Japanese-German partnership in education and research

 

On November 20, 2018, Abai KazNPU Senior Vice-Rector Maktagali Bektemessov met with the delegation from Osaka Kyoiku University (Japan) led by President Kuribayashi Sumio, Executive Vice-President Morita Eiji, Prof. Dr. Toyo Akaki and representatives from University of Leipzig (Germany) Prof.Barbara Drinck and Prof.Dr. Makhabbat Kenzhegaliyeva.

 

Senior Vice-Rector Abai KazNPU Maktagali Bektemessov initiated honoured guests into the key priorities and achievements of the University. At the meeting sides presented universities, discussed the possibilities of joint collaboration in student and staff exchange programmes and holding tripartite joint research conference on updating teacher education.

 

Currently, Abai KazNPU and Institute of Education University of Leipzig have Bilateral Agreement, and are collaborating in master and doctoral student`s scholarly internship, supervising and Erasmus+ programme staff credit mobility.

 

The meeting ended with decision to prepare the project of Memorandum of Understanding in education and research between Abai KazNPU and Osaka Kyoiku University (Japan).

 

Delegations arrived in Almaty for their one-week visit to Abai KazNPU. Abai KazNPU has arranged for delegations a range of meeting with teaching staff of Institutte for Pedagogy and Psychology, head of Physics Division Prof.Vladimir Kossov and visit to Early Years setting N27 Akbulak.

 

Osaka Kyoiku University (OKU), which was founded in May 1874 as a teacher training school, boasts over 140 years history and tradition. The current number of undergraduate and graduate students totals approximately 4700, with another 4800 students matriculated in affiliated schools. Among Japanese universities, OKU is a one of the leading producers of qualified teachers and a leading large-scale college of education.

 

The main campus of OKU was established in the Kongo Ikoma Kisen National Park, in Kashiwara City, Osaka. This campus is approximately 670,000 square meters in area. In addition, OKU also has a campus in Tennoji, in central Osaka.

 

The university`s programs are designed to meet the high educational standards of a comprehensive teacher training university. OKU is made up 11 affiliated schools, including primary, secondary, and special needs education that are located in three areas of metropolitan Osaka: Tennoji, Hirano, and Ikeda city.

 

University of Leipzig was founded in 1409 making it one of the oldest universities in Germany. It is an interdisciplinary, international comprehensive university.

On its ambitious path to becoming a European top-level university and internationally recognised seat of research and learning for young scholars the University draws on an extensive range of subject areas. Crossing boundaries of traditional academic disciplines, international collaboration, networking with non-university research institutes and business are not just traditions of the University but are also the basis of its academic excellence.

 

The University consists of 14 faculties with 128 institutes. 35,000 persons research, teach and study at the university and more than 4,300 persons are employed at the University Hospital of Leipzig. The university offered 136 courses of study in the 2009/10 winter semester. 5,686 doctoral candidates are registered at the UL (2,439 in medicines), 631 of whom are enrolled in 20 structured graduate training programmes (as per the end of 2009). The research potential in Leipzig is fortified by 20 non-university research institutions and five other universities.
