The history of the Department of Preschool Education and Social Pedagogy begins in 1983 when, based on the Faculty of Defectology of KazNPU named after Abay, the Department of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education was established. In 1990, as a result of reorganization, the Department of Pedagogy of Primary School was created, with the first head being the renowned scholar, Professor Talgat Sabirov. Professor Romseit Koyanbayev, who headed the Faculty of Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education at the time, provided significant support in establishing the independent department.

In 2015, due to structural changes within the university, students of the specialty "Preschool Education and Training" were transferred to the department, and since that year, the division has been named the Department of Preschool Education and Social Pedagogy.

A testament to the high ranking of the department is the participation of its leading professors in scientific councils. By a decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, starting in 2019, a Dissertation Council with the authority to award the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) was opened at KazNPU named after Abay.

The department boasts a strong faculty consisting of doctors and candidates of pedagogical sciences, as well as PhD doctors; for their contributions to the development of psychological-pedagogical education and science in Kazakhstan, they have been awarded honors: the Ы. Altynsarin badge (2), and the "For Contribution to the Development of Science" medal (2).

The educational programs " Preschool education and upbringing (6B01201 (204), 7M01201, and 8D01201)," as well as "Social Pedagogy" at KazNPU named after Abay, are some of the best leading programs and are competitive in the training of pedagogical personnel in the Republic. This is evidenced by the fact that the programs hold leading positions in the IAAR ratings.

The faculty of the Department of Preschool Education and Social Pedagogy at Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay stands out for its high level of professional competence and scientific activity. The department`s professors actively participate in international conferences, presenting the results of their research on prestigious global platforms. This contributes to strengthening international scientific collaboration and exchanging advanced experience in the field of preschool education and social pedagogy.

The department`s professors are also involved in research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which contributes to their professional growth and expands their scientific horizons.

Special attention is given to the development and improvement of educational programs. The faculty is actively involved in designing educational programs, ensuring that they meet international standards and the needs of the modern educational environment.
