In memory of victims of political repressions

 

On May 22, 2019, a meeting was held with a well-known scientist, doctor of historical sciences, a university graduate, Professor Omarbekov Talas Omarbekovich on the theme «Kazakh population before 1916 and famine», dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression.

The Vice-Rector for educational work and social development of the University Zhanatbek Ishpekbayev opened the event. He stressed the importance of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repression in Kazakhstan.

Professor Talas Omarbekov gave an informative report on the era of the Great Terror and the history of subsequent repression in Kazakhstan. According to the scientist, 2 million 300 thousand Kazakhs died during the famine of 1931-1933. In the years 1937-1938, over one hundred thousand people were persecuted in the republic, over 27 thousand were shot as «Enemies of the people».


In turn, the meeting participants asked the historian questions and shared their opinions.


Representatives of the Akimat of Medeu District and a number of public organizations attended the event, organized in accordance with the Plan of the Almaty Akimat.


It should be noted that in memory of victims of political repression and hunger, the university developed an action plan and carried out a set of measures for their implementation.
