In accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the University of February 28, 2017, the Department of Kazakh Literature was named after academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan S.Kirabayev. Since September 2, 2017 the Department has been headed by the academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Academy of International Education (Russia), as well as the International Academy named after Sh. Aitmatov (Kyrgyzstan), doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor B.Smanov.

Currently, the doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor T. Zhumazhanova, doctors of philological sciences, professors B.Abdigaziuly, T.Tebegenov, doctor of philological sciences S.Asylbekuly, A.Tanzharykova, candidates of pedagogical sciences, associate professors A.Tamaev, R. Borash, B.Kabatay, candidates of philology, associate professors S.Aibergenova, M.Bekbosynov, candidates of philology, senior teachers G.Yesirkepova, D.Satemirova, G.Askarova, A.Ibraeva, Zh.Seysenbaeva, Ph.D., senior lecturer S. Serikova, teachers S.Syzdykov, F.Karagulova, G.Mahash, G.Konysbaeva, senior laboratory assistant B.Abil.

It is functioned postgraduate and doctoral studies (PhD) at the Department preparing cadres, specialists for Higher Educational Institutions and Scientific Institutions of the Republic. At the present time 62 students are studying in the magistracy, 11 students are studying on the doctoral (PhD) program.

Scientific works of the members of the Department, undergraduates and doctoral students (PhD) are published in the Republican editions, on the pages of highly rated scientific journals. Along with this, the Department is collecting the scientific works of scientists and teachers of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic devoted to research in this field, and publishes the series of a journal "Philological Sciences", the Bulletin of Abai KazNPU. Academician B.Smanov is the current editor of the journal.
