An international education expert, Clea Fernandez, delivered a Workshop at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University during 13.11.25-19.11.25.

She holds a PhD in educational psychology, serves as an OECD specialist and is known for her research on the Lesson Study approach. She is also a co author of the book “Lesson Study: A Japanese Approach to Improving Mathematics Teaching and Learning”. The lecture focused on the effective implementation of Lesson Study in school practice. The speaker explained the purpose and structure of the method and highlighted its role in teacher professional development. Participants asked questions about the origins of Lesson Study in Japan and its use in other countries. The session included workshop activities and video analysis. Clea Fernandez supported participants in developing skills for planning research lessons, analyzing teaching and learning processes and applying Lesson Study in real school settings. It was also announced that from November 13 to 19 the Center for Pedagogical Innovations and Action Research will hold masterclasses for students writing their thesis projects in Lesson Study format, their supervisors and faculty mentor researchers. The seminars will involve students from Almaty and scientific supervisors from all faculties.
