Flower laying at the monument of Abai

Today is Abay Day! This year is the 177th birthday anniversary of steppe philosopher, poet, composer and educator Abay Kunanbayev.

In honor of birthday of the great son of Kazakh people in our university which bears Abay`s name, there was a flower laying at his monument. The management and staff of Abai University took part in this and other events dedicated to this holiday.

The significant celebration was opened by Shyngys Nurlanov, Vice-Rector for Social Development. «I congratulate the staff of our university, which proudly bears the name of Abai, with this new, but very important holiday. Today Abay`s unparalleled work is promoted as the spiritual legacy of our people and a world-class genius. Both the poet`s poems and his philosophical reflections have not lost their relevance, they are the conductor of morality from generation to generation», he said. Director of «Hakim Abay» research center, famous abaiologist Zhabal Shoinbet briefly spoke about great Abay and his work, noting that in our country there is a comprehensive work on the new study of his legacy and popularization in the world.

The new holiday date was established on the initiative of the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and in accordance with the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 4, 2020, within the framework of the anniversary celebrations dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev.
