The conference titled "The Golden Horde in World History"

 

On December 5, 2024, an international round table titled "The Golden Horde in World History" was organized by the Department of "History of Ancient and Medieval Kazakhstan" at the Faculty of History and Law of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. The event was attended by renowned foreign scholars of the history of the Jochi Ulus (Golden Horde), Ilyas Kemaloglu and Ilnur Mirgaliyev.

 

Ilyas Kemaloglu is a professor at Marmara University in Turkey and the author of several monographs on the history of the Golden Horde, including "The Relations of the Golden Horde with the Hulaguids" (Istanbul, 2003; Kazan, 2007); "The Golden Horde and the Russian Ulus: Tatar Influence on Russia" (Istanbul, 2008; Kazan, 2016); "The Yarliks and Letters of the Khans of the Golden Horde" (co-authored, Ankara, 2017); "The History of the Tatars" (Istanbul, 2024), and others.

 

Ilnur Mirgaliyev is the head of the Center for the Study of the Golden Horde and Tatar Khanates at the Sh. Marjani Institute of History in Tatarstan, and the author of several monographs on the history of the Golden Horde and subsequent khanates, including "The Political History of the Golden Horde During the Reign of Khan Tokhtamysh" (Kazan, 2003); "Materials on the History of the Wars of the Golden Horde with the Timurid Empire" (Kazan, 2007); "Khan Tokhtamysh" (Kazan, 2011); "The Golden Horde: Bibliographic Index" (Kazan, 2013).

 

The round table was opened by Professor Nurlan Adilbekuly Atygaev, head of the Department of "History of Ancient and Medieval Kazakhstan." Ilnur Mirgaliyev presented a report on new data and perspectives on the history of the Golden Horde. Ilyas Kemaloglu discussed his research on the Golden Horde in Turkey and his scientific work in this field.

 

The presentations of the foreign guests sparked great interest among the students, as evidenced by the questions they asked the speakers. This meeting will undoubtedly be a significant event in the students` memories, especially as this year Kazakhstan is celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Jochi Ulus, as initiated by President K. Tokayev.
