Translation Quality Assessment: theory and practice

On April 12, 2024, within the framework of the Decade of Science, the International Round Table " Translation Quality Assessment: theory and practice" was held at the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation of the Institute of Philology of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University.

The speakers were: Jan Engberg - PhD, Full Professor at Aarhus University (Denmark), Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog and Honorary Doctor of the University of Vaasa (Finland) - "Translation Quality as the conveying the same knowledge - Knowledge Communicative Approach; Irina Vyacheslavovna Ubozhenko - Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, head of the Translation Studies and Training Section of the Union of Translators of Russia, Associate Professor at the Higher School of Economics, Associate Professor at University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation - "Translation quality: assessment scale and criteria systems"; Aigul Kazkenovna Zhumabekova - Doctor of Philology, Professor of Abai KazNPU, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Kazakhstan- "The current state of the problem of assessing the quality of translation abroad and in Kazakhstan"; Aizhan Muratovna Kurkimbayeva - PhD, Head of the Department of Speech Practice of Foreign Languages KazUIRandWL named after Abylai Khan - "The Application of the J. House`s Model of Translation Quality Assessment in academic discourse"; Anar Lesbaevna Ospanova - Master of Atrs, Senior lecturer at the Department of Translation and Intercultural Communication of KazUIRandWL named after Abylai Khan - "Translation Quality Assessment and translation strategies from English to Kazakh"; Mukhitov Arupzhan Zumratovich - Master of Arts, lecturer at Abai KazNPU- "Questionnaire as a method of assessing the quality of translation by the target audience."

The round table was organized within the framework of the research project AR19680449 "Translation Quality Assessment: Scientific and Educational Spheres". The participants of the event were teachers and students of translation specialties of KazNPU named after Abay and KazUIRandWL named after Abylai Khan. The speakers` reports aroused great interest and lively discussion, as the issues raised are relevant both in research terms and in the practical aspect, for the successful implementation of the educational process.
