The S. Kirabayev Department of Kazakh Language and Literature of the Institute of Philology of Abai KazNPU is one of the fundamental departments in the republic for training teachers of Kazakh language and literature. The department is engaged in linguistics, literary studies and education, implements scientific projects in accordance with the strategic direction of our state.

Scientific works are published in the framework of language laws and norms in the transition to Latin, problems of teaching the national alphabet, methodology of level paradigms in teaching Kazakh language, language content of Kazakh society, expression of nomadic culture in language and literature, actual problems of teaching Kazakh language and literature in a new direction.

The Department takes in its leadership the study of communicative, functional, pragmatic, structural linguistics, the issues of linguoculturology and classical, modernist, postmodernist literature in connection with national values.

The scientific potential of the department is 78%. Directions of research: national cultural code in Kazakh philology and innovations in education; perpetuate the history of Kazakh language and Kazakh literature; innovative technologies of Kazakh language and literature; functional literacy of reading and writing.

The department closely co-operates with scientists of many foreign universities, domestic scientific institutions and higher educational establishments. These are foreign universities: Kazan Federal University (Russia); Gorno-Altaisk State University (Russia); Chuvash State University named after I.N.Ulyanov (Russia);

Ege University (Turkey); Firat University (Turkey); Istanbul University (Turkey); Gazi University (Turkey); Muğla Sıtkı Kocman (Turkey); Azerbaijan State Pedagogical People`s University; Mirzo Ulugbek University of Uzbekistan, Mickiewicz University (Poland) and University of Freiburg (Germany).

For the last five years the department has issued about 100 scientific monographs, textbooks and teaching aids. It makes a great contribution to the preparation of textbooks "Kazak tili" and "Ana tili" for schools of the country.

Working closely with publishing houses "Ata Mura", "Mektep", "Arman-PV", "Kokjiek", the staff of the department prepare school textbooks and teaching materials. Annually they publish more than 200 articles for foreign and domestic scientific conferences, in mass media, journals included in the list of the Committee for Quality Assurance in the field of science of MSHE RK, indexed in the international databases Scopus and Web of Science.

The department supervises doctoral students in the directions "8D01701-Kazakh language and literature", "8D02304-Linguistics", "8D02305-Literature" and prepares 5-6 candidates of sciences in each academic year.
