On November 28, the Faculty of History and Law of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan) hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference titled “Smağul Sädwakasov: Time and Legacy,” dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Smağul Sädwakasov — one of the prominent leaders of the Kazakh intelligentsia of the early 20th century, a statesman and public figure. The large-scale event brought together scholars from Kazakhstan and abroad, university professors, lecturers, doctoral and master’s students, as well as undergraduates. Participants delivered presentations on Sädwakasov’s life path, public service, and intellectual legacy. The conference was moderated by the Chairman of the Board – Rector of the university, Tilep Bolat Anapiyuly. Renowned scholars, Academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan M. K. Koigeldiev and H. M. Abzhanov analyzed Sädwakasov’s criticism of Soviet authority, the contemporary relevance of his ideas, and his views on the future. Scholars J. S. Botanayev from Kyrgyzstan, R. Kh. Akbarov from Fergana University, and Associate Professor Ch. Kh. Samatova from Kazan Federal University addressed the issues of political repression during Sädwakasov’s era. Researchers A. S. Ismakova, B. Koishybay, S. Malikova, M. B. Musabayev, and others presented papers on Sädwakasov’s works, as well as his contributions to education and journalism, including discussions related to the events of the 1930s in the Soviet Union. During the work of the sectional sessions, scholars, doctoral students, and master’s students also reflected on various aspects of Sädwakasov’s socio-political activity and creative legacy.
