Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University is the first higher education institution in the country`s history, which for 95 years has been proudly fulfilling its mission of preparing qualified future teachers. In 2023, the university entered the list of the top 5 universities in the QS World Ranking Central Asia and was recognized as the best pedagogical university in Central Asia. The priority scientific research areas for faculty, staff, and young researchers include pedagogy and education, aligned with the approved policies and goals in the field of quality education: national upbringing and psycho-pedagogical education; digitization of education, inclusive education, innovative teaching methods, including in multilingual education, training in Latin script, and other directions of pedagogical science.

To the Top 50 Best University Professors of the General Rating of Kazakhstan in 2023, were included 5 professors: Kosov V.N., Buribaev E.A., Khamzina Zh.A., Berdyshev A.S., Zharmağanbetova A.K., as well as 1 young scientist Tileuberdi E. from Abai University.
The authors of the monograph "Dictionary of Mukagali Language", Sherubay Kurmanbayuly, Zhansait Tuymebaev, Bayynkul Kaliev, and Sabira Isakova, prepared by the N. Kelimbetov Center for Turkology at Abai University, were awarded the Sh. Valikhanov Prize for the best scientific research in the field of Humanities in 2023.
The title of "Best University Teacher - 2023" in Kazakhstan was awarded to PhD Kymbat Bekenayeva, Duman Aliaskarov, and Professor Bolat Zhumagulov.
State scientific scholarship was awarded to Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Abdulmavlen Berdyishev.
State scientific scholarships for talented young scientists were received by PhD and postdoctoral researcher Zharasbek Baishemirov, and PhD Ainur Seilkhan.
In 2023, Abai University graduated its second cohort of postdoctoral researchers - 7 young talented scientists: Sh. Laishanov, B. Moldagali, S. Serikova, A. Baikulova, B. Sapargalieva, Sh. Akimbekova, and A. Seilkhan. Within the framework of the postdoctoral program, the graduates achieved significant accomplishments: 1 postdoctoral researcher was awarded the title of "Best University Teacher" in Kazakhstan, 2 received state scholarships for talented young scientists, and 1 became a Bolashak program scholar. In total, over three years, the postdoctoral researchers published 55 articles in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and WoS, with 29 publications in journals with high CiteScore percentiles (percentile not less than 50 and not less than Q1, Q2), and 81 articles in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in the Field of Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Among the postdoctoral program graduates are project leaders for research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, as well as international projects.
In 2023, 26 faculty members and staff of the university became winners of the "500 Scientists" scientific internship competition under the Bolashak program. They include: Zh.T. Belasarova, G.E. Dyusembina, A. Zhunusbekova, A.T. Kulsariev, F.M. Yerzhanov, S.K. Serikova, A.B. Umarova, Zh.A. Yerimbetova, E.A. Ospanbekov, K.K. Muzdybaeva, Zh.Zh. Kuanyshbayeva, G.K. Rakhimova, Zh.M. Zhaksibayeva, A.K. Moshkalov, K.Zh. Sarbaev, S.E. Yesenaman, Z.A. Kemelbekov, E.Zh. Azretbergenova, K.M. Bekbolatova, B.Zh. Saparov, T.B. Kilybayev, and others.
As of the end of 2023, the number of research projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MSHE RK) amounted to 60 projects, within 4 projects program-targeted funding. The main directions of these projects are "Education and Sciences" (25 projects) and "Research in the field of Social and Humanitarian Sciences" (25 projects).
In 2023, young scientists from Abai University won 2 projects (A.N. Umirbekova, M.I. Revshanova) for young researchers and 4 "Zhas Galym (Young Scientist)" projects (D. Orynbayeva, N. Konkabayeva, E. Tleuberdi, A. Seilkhan) for the years 2023-2025.
In 2023, Abai University won 1 commercialization project DP21682051 "Innovative Production of Glossy Eco-Friendly Windowsills from Composite Materials Based on PVC, by Co-Extrusion Method, Using YBCO Modifiers", funded by Science Fund of MSHE RK in collaboration with LLP "Keruen Plus".
In addition, in 2023, a contract with LLP "SEHA COMPANY" was signed for the implementation of scientific research and experimental design work until 2026.
In 2023, the university allocated grant funding for 25 scientific projects from its own funds for the 95th anniversary of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University: 15 projects for young scientists and 10 projects for faculty members and university staff.
By the end of 2023, a total of 317 faculty members, staff, and postdoctoral researchers, with more than 70 being young scientists, were involved as project leaders and/or members in research groups for projects funded from the republican budget, where Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University and/or other organizations are being grant holders (54 faculty members).
In 2023, faculty members and staff of the University published over 340 scientific articles in international journals indexed in Scopus (236) and Web of Science (110). The proportion of publications in high-ranking journals (Q1, Q2) increased by 20% compared to the previous year. The number of publications in the field of UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals in international journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science amounted to 24. Additionally, 58 articles were published in collaboration with foreign partners.
Throughout 2023, faculty members and staff of the University published approximately 2630 works, including 480 publications in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in the Field of Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 203 publications in international journals, 400 publications in scientific journals of Kazakhstan, 379 articles and/or abstracts in international conferences, 663 articles and/or abstracts in international and national conferences held in Kazakhstan. Additionally, 40 monographs, 21 textbooks for schools, 21 teaching aids for school teachers, and 114 educational and methodological manuals for universities in Kazakhstan were published. Furthermore, 125 copyright certificates and 9 patents for inventions were obtained.
